First steps

Our history began back in the 19th century when two brothers, Jacques and Étienne Gautret, purchased Château de Jonzac in 1818.

Gautret & fils

In 1847 the Château became the spirits trading company “Gautret & Fils” founded by Jacques and Françoise Gautret’s son: Louis François Jules Gautret.

BREAKS THE CODES

The Gautret trading company later officially took on the name “Jules Gautret” following the transfer of the company to Jules Gautret. Jules created products that reflected his personality: audacious, dynamic and creative.

He soon built up the brand reputation by federating winegrowers and by creating partnerships with them. The name Jules Gautret became a signature of excellence.

FIRST ACHIEVEMENTS

The company was awarded a gold medal as early as 1895 at the Universal Exposition in Bordeaux, followed by numerous distinctions such as the Grand Prize at USA Universal Exposition of Saint-Louis in 1904.

Thanks to the rigor of winegrowers, winemakers and distillers family, quality and audacity was unquestionably the Jules Gautret trademark.

Successive generations

Five generations of the Gautret family succeed each other while maintaining the same audacious and pioneering spirit.
The Jules Gautret company is the first cognac house that opened the doors of its business to winegrowers to create a single family.
